Please enjoy your vacation and we hope to welcome you back next year! — The Northern Nook Family
Our Story
We've been vacationing in Glen Arbor for over 40 years. It started as a way for a couple of families to get away for a week. It grew to a 3-week vacation with over 30 of us (3 generations) gathering in the area each year. After years of renting, we finally bought the Northern Nook to call our own in the Fall of 2024.
We want to continue to create a space that others can stay and enjoy the peaceful serenity of Northern Michigan. We promise to provide you an experience where you can feel at home and on vacation at the same time!
The Nook is dog friendly, and we hope your pup (if you brought them) enjoys their visit. Wesley, our adorable rescue pup, sure does enjoy the space. He has provided a few dog essentials in the cabinet by the front door!

We have done our best to stock the Nook! Take a look in all the drawers to find anything you might need. If it's not there, suggest it in your review and we'll try to have it for you next time.

Helpful House Notes
Tap water is safe to drink. The fridge isn't hooked up to a water line — there's a filtered water jug in the fridge and extra filters in the cabinet above.
The backyard is very sandy. We find it helpful to take shoes off at the door. There's a hand vacuum in the kitchen and a full vacuum in the closet.
The TV works in Roku Guest Mode — it will ask for your checkout date when you sign in. Sign in to your own apps (Netflix, YouTubeTV, etc.) and sign out when you leave. Watch tutorial.
Go to Settings > System > Screen Mirroring on the Roku. Then open Control Center on your iPhone and tap Screen Mirroring to connect.
Pickup is very early on Wednesday morning. Put the bin at the end of the road Tuesday evening and wheel it back Wednesday afternoon.
The recycling center is near Glen Arbor at the corner of Old Homestead Rd and W Harbor Highway (outside the Leelanau School entrance). No need to separate recyclables!
Local Tips
- Dune/Park Pass: Get a weeklong pass if you plan to visit multiple parks and dunes — it covers the Dune Climb and surrounding areas.
- Cash: Many smaller-town shops and restaurants prefer or require cash. There's an ATM by the grocery store in Glen Arbor.
- Star Gazing: Download a star-gazing app and head outside at night — the skies here are spectacular.
- Walk to the water: Walk out the door and turn left. Stroll down to Brooks Road until you hit the lake — a 10–15 minute walk and a great spot to catch the sunset.
- Packing Tip: Weather can change quickly. Bring a sweatshirt so you can cozy up by the fire.

Tips for Dog Owners
- Many hikes do not allow dogs — research before heading out. Empire Bluff Trail always has dogs walking with owners and is one of the best views you can get while hiking!
- Head in either direction from the Nook — about a quarter mile you'll find very quiet side streets. Walking on Dunns Farm Rd is enjoyable.
- Glen Arbor Wines and M22 are super dog-friendly (inside and outside) if you want a place to go in town.
- Search BringFido.com for more tips on dog-friendly areas around the area.
